Vehicle FAQ's

Where do you cars come from, and what checks have they had when entering New Zealand? +

Our cars are imported from Japan where prior to entering New Zealand, rigorous checks are done by a compliance company to ensure the car is up to New Zealand standards. As part of these checks the braking system is thoroughly checked, and vehicle structure is checked for any accident damage.

What is ORC? +

ORC stands for On Road Costs, and covers everything we have done to get the car ready to drive away.

Why does your ORC cost $705.00? +

2 Cheap Cars offers a full package to ensure you have confidence in the car you are purchasing. This package includes license plates, 6 month's registration, Warranty of Fitness (WOF), full service (engine oil change, engine service, cleaner, coolant etc), and mechanical inspection.

Is the mileage genuine? +

Yes, we have had the odometer independently checked to ISO/IEC 17020:2012 standards. This information can be found on the windscreen of the vehicle you are looking to purchase.

Does the car come with a warranty? +

You are covered under the Consumer Guarantees Act for a reasonable period of time, as long as the car is used for private use, and not commercial use. We also offer extended mechanical warranties to cover either a 1, 2 or 3-year period.

Can I take a car for a test drive? +

Yes, we will require a current valid driver's licence and one of our team members will happily book a test drive for you.

Can I arrange an AA or mechanical inspection? +

Once you have completed a Vehicle Sales Agreement with our staff, this can be done as a Condition-of-Sale.

Can I purchase a vehicle from a branch located in a different city to where I live? +

Yes, you can. Just get in touch with one of our team members for a delivery quote, and once approved by you, we can deliver to your door or nearest branch.

What is the Tyrewise Stewardship fee? +

Tyrewise is the accredited, regulated product stewardship scheme for end-of-life tyres in Aotearoa New Zealand. Tyres are a priority product under the Waste Minimisation Act 2008 and the Tyrewise Stewardship Fees are set in the Waste Minimisation (Tyres) Regulations 2023.

This will be charged additional to the retail price and ORC. This fee covers management of the scheme, tyre collection services, incentive payments for processing, tyre-derived product manufacture, research and development grants, and monitoring of the scheme by the Ministry for the Environment (set at 0.48% of the fee).
